Iris Apfel's Vintage Roger Jean Pierre or Gripoix Pearl Necklace

From Iris Apfel's personal collection: A rare, stunning Vintage attributed Roger Jean Pierre Gripoix Pearl or Gripoix Necklace with an original hand-written tag typically indicative of the various exhibitions Iris was the subject of, where she displayed pieces from her personal collection. This glamorous pearl torsade necklace is the kind of vintage treasure collectors spend a lifetime searching for. Ten stunning strands meet to form a drop fringe that dangles purple amethyst hued glass crystals. It's honestly breathtaking, and one of the most beautiful pieces we've ever had the pleasure of offering.

Iris must have loved and worn this necklace--it has a faint smell of perfume and visible evidence of hair in the fringe (seen in photos #5 & #6), provided in tact for the buyer.

Roger Jean-Pierre was a French designer active from the 1930s who worked for Elsa Schiaparelli, Maison Francis Winter, Dior, Balenciaga, Gres, Balmain and more. Many of his pieces were made specifically for French haute couture fashion houses and remain unsigned. As per the hand-written tag, this necklace is attributed to Roger Jean Pierre or Gripoix. Gripoix is a historic French glass company, often associated for their collaborations with Chanel. Gripoix has been in operation since the Victorian era.

In Iris's books, she wrote about how she would visit the French haute couture houses while in Paris for work, and buy samples or end-of-season discounted pieces that she thought were interesting.

MATERIALS: Silver tone metal, glass pearl coated in nacre, glass crystal.

ERA: Estimated 1950s - 1960s.

CONDITION: In good secondhand condition, with some normal wear and tear that comes with age. Light visible scratching throughout. Obvious signs of wear noted.

MEASUREMENTS: Roughly 16 inches long, fringe drop roughly 2 inches long.
