From Iris Apfel's personal collection: An incredibly rare Vintage Nina Ricci Haute Couture Black Gown with Crystal Buttons. This is the ultimate statement dress---floor-length with crystal buttons and epic tailoring. Extreme high-fashion goth chic vibes.
Based on the label, this is a haute couture piece designed by former Nina Ricci creative director Gérard Pipart. In 1963, at 29, Gerard Pipart was appointed as creative director of Nina Ricci’s haute couture atelier. He was a couture master, designing for three decades until Puig bought Nina Ricci and dropped the couture line in 1998. Prior to his work at Nina Ricci, he worked under Hubert de Givenchy and Marc Bohan at Jean Patou as well as Chloè, under Gaby Aghion. All of this formed the basis of his extremely elegant, dramatic work at Nina Ricci. In 1987 he won the Dé d’Or award for best couture collection.
In Iris's books, she wrote about how she would visit the French haute couture houses while in Paris for work, and buy samples or end-of-season discounted pieces that she thought were interesting.
Due to their authentic provenance and the delicate secondhand nature, items from the personal collection of Iris Apfel are final sale and non-returnable. Each piece will arrive with a provenance card.
