Consider this Antique French Cut Steel Beaded Reticule Bag, c. 1900–1920s a little armored teardrop of a bag, and quite frankly, a mood for people who appreciate antique beauties. Hand-crocheted in a moody moss-gray drab silk and banded in rows of faceted French cut steel, zigzags, dotted waves, and bold geometric fretwork stacking down to a solid steel base that ends in a full, swishy bead tassel. The original steel chain drawstring has matching tassel pulls. Cut steel is the great forgotten sparkle: each tiny bead individually faceted metal, throwing a sharp gunmetal glitter. Could potentially originally be a mourning piece that faded from black over the years.
Carry it dangling from a wrist as intended, or hang it where the light can get at it. For the steel bead completists, the Edwardian romantics, and anyone building a small museum of beautiful ways to hold almost nothing. These bags are increasingly hard to come by, especially in usable condition. Please see worn photos for sizing.

ERA: Early Edwardian/Art Deco, estimated 1900–1920s.
