From Iris Apfel's personal collection: A rare, massive statement necklace that is an essential find of a lifetime and extremely true to Iris Apfel's rare bird aesthetic. She often wore large, textural black necklaces and this is just one from her incredible collection. Iris Apfel's Vintage Monumental Monies Leather and Pearl Necklace is made of plush, decadent black strips of leather dripping with delicious, dynamic dyed baroque pearls. They swirl and jingle as you wear them. They hang from a sculptural wooden base supported by leather ties which are adjustable, so you can create your own look.
This piece is missing one strip of leather (from wear) where the signature likely would have been. It is Monies, a brand Iris Apfel often wore and supported. A similar, smaller version is pictured and recently sold here for $1,998.
Gerda Lynggaard (who now goes by Gerda Monies) and her husband Nikolai founded Monies in 1973 in Copenhagen. The label is known for creating huge, over-the-top, maximalist creations using semi-precious stones and materials.
Due to their authentic provenance and delicate secondhand nature, items from the personal collection of Iris Apfel are final sale and non-returnable. Each piece will arrive with a provenance card.
